Bolton Abbey is a functioning C of E Church built making the use of the ruins of an old monastery destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries (1536-1541) when Henry VIII “disbanded monasteries, priories, convents and friaries in England, Wales and Ireland, appropriated their income and disposed of their assets.” (It was a bit of a cash cow for him.)
My family and I had the opportunity to visit the ruins and the church, and of course I had to share. Enjoy.
About two years ago I drew this church and ruins with charcoal! I wish i still had it but unfortunately I left it with my professor. I love seeing pictures of it! I feel as though I have been there after studying it for so long. Fantastic photos, I love how bright it all seems even in over cast weather and with the old stone. Also love that you wrote about the dissolution of the monasteries. I’m excited to see more of your photos.
